In Komoka, an exhausted sand and gravel pit has been turned into the heart and soul of the FireRock Golf Club. Framed by natural grasses and trees, a rolling landscape and ragged bunkers, this stunning course flows effortlessly over pastureland, through significant savannah grasses, along the Oxbow River valley, intertwining with gravel spoil piles.
This rehabilitation / reclamation project is unlike any that architect Thomas McBroom has undertaken. The inspiring layout offers both challenge and enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels.

Three motifs – sand and gravel spoil piles, savannah grasslands and an uncultured bunker style – revealed themselves during the design phase and now define FireRock's character. Old spoil piles and mounds of sand and gravel - scars left behind from the old quarry - have been intuitively incorporated into the green sites, bunkers and fairways on numerous holes.

In keeping with the changing landscape, the course evolves from parkland to highland links to woodland styles, offers numerous risk-reward options and presents a spacious feeling that leads golfers to believe the course is theirs alone.
Designed for public play, the course presents few forced carries and all golfers will enjoy its playability. The par-3s, in particular, are exceptional without being overly long.

The par-4s are demanding, especially # 13-14-15 - the backbone of the course. With the exception of # 12, the par-5s demand both accuracy and length off the tee as well as strategic play.

"Ragged", relatively shallow, flat bunkers punctuate the fairways and landing areas, while greenside bunkers are steeper, set more sharply into the green complexes.
