| Course Profile |
| Rio Vista GC is a challenging, full-length, 9-hole course. Playing as short as 2806 yards and stretching to 3370 yards from the tips, the par-36 layout is a parkland design and includes all manner of evil - trees, bunkers, ravines, moderate elevation changes and small greens. |
 |
Generous rolling fairways encourage aggressive driving and very few places where OB is a danger. There are relatively few water hazards and greenside bunkers are shallow and very playable.
The course opens and closes with long par-5s, the first requiring a forced carry to a narrow, back-to-front sloping green. Though short, the 2nd hole again requires the tee shot to carry across a ravine, but nothing like the par-3 3rd hole. A long-iron or fairway metal is needed top reach yet another narrow, well protected green.
The long, par-4 4th hole allows a bit of abandon off the tee, leaving a mid-iron approach. The short, par-4 5th is the first real birdie hole, requiring just a short wedge shot to the green. Following that, however, is the very demanding par-4 6th, also with a very small green that falls away front-to-back. |
| The downhill par-3 7th plays longer than it looks, so take an extra club. The par-4 8th is a most interesting hole featuring two greens - one a driver and wedge, the other, a dog-leg left, considerably longer. The closing hole, a par-5 of just under 500 yards, offers a good opportunity to make birdie.
By no means a short or easy course, Rio Vista GC remains a demanding layout, but its wide fairways, few water hazards and good putting surfaces make it an enjoyable test for golfers of all playing abilities. |
