| Not since Niagara Parks commissioned legendary golf course architect Stanley Thompson to design Whirlpool Golf Course back in 1947 has golf course design been so much the focus in Niagara. Over the past five years, the building of several new upscale golf facilities has vaulted Niagara well up the list of Canada’s favourite golf vacation destinations. |

In 2000, the opening of Hunters Pointe signalled a new direction for golf in Niagara. The course immediately won the praise of golf writers and course ranking agencies alike. In 2001, the completion of the Royal Niagara GC and the Legends on the Niagara complex in 2002 ushered in a new era for Niagara golf tourism. |
| Most recently, the creation of the Niagara Golf Trail and the 2005 openings of The Grand Niagara Club (Rees Jones) and Thundering Waters GC (Bo Danoff & John Daly) have vaulted Niagara atop Ontario's premier golf vacationj destinations.
